The company yesterday finally told on local media that its true octa-core processor MT6592, will be launched in Shenzhe on November 20.
Earlier on, local media reported that MediaTek will perhaps demonstrate its true octa-core processor solutions for major handset customers including TCL, Huawei and Gionee. Now 8 major Chinese handset makers, including ZTE, Huawei, Coolpad, Lenovo, OPPO, Gionee and vivo, have decided to develop new smartphone models equipped with MediaTek’s new octa-core processor. But according to the rumours, the new Sony Xperia Tianchi, including 8-core monster, could debut on November 12.
Earlier when a prototype model with Octa core chipset ran the AntuTu benchmark app and scored 25,496 points. It shows that the eight cores does’t mean something ultra powerful, though the prototype handset with the MT6592 chipset was clocked at 1.7GHz that was the lowest frequency. The GPU was Mali 450 with 1GB RAM and 720p HD display.
MediaTek has officially confirmed that the chip can run at 2GHz. The higher frequency should be able to return more than 30,000 points, and software optimizations might help improve the score even further.
